The agreement gives regulators the right to request assistance from one another on issues related to regulated insurers in the United States and Germany. Douglas who co-hosted a White House health care forum in Burlington in March said Tuesday he will urge the bama administration and members of Congress to focus on curbing the cost of health care above all else. “It doesn’t matter in the long run how insurance is structured whether there’s a public plan or a private plan” Douglas said. “If we don’t get those costs under control we’re going to be broke either way. ” Vermont he said can be used as a national model with programs the state has developed in recent years including the state-subsidized Catamount Health Plan the Blueprint for Health which focuses on care of chronic diseases and Choices for Care which allows elderly people to stay home instead of moving to more costly nursing homes. Welch said the legislation under consideration in the House Energy and Commerce Committee of which he is a member contains two pieces he is sponsoring: the Vermont-style chronic care focus and an initiative to reward quality of care over quantity in payments to doctors. Vermont’s three-member congressional delegation and the governor agree that containing health care costs is the priority.

The report’s release will be followed by a rally and lobbying effort Thursday in Washington D. The findings come as Congress begins consideration of President Barack bama’s health care proposals which include a public health insurance plan.
