Small Business and the Public ption
New York Times
Ah the “public plan” ? that’s basically a government-managed risk pool like Medicare. Proponents (which include most Democrats) say it is the only organization that will have the leverage to force cost controls and other reforms to improve both medicine and insurance. pponents (which include most Republicans) see it as a slippery slope to a national health insurance system like those found in Canada and much of Western Europe. (Actually some proponents see it that way too. )ddly the public plan is also one of the battle lines for organizations that claim to represent small business.

The remaining 37% do not expect to see any change. In other words 74% of Americans do not see healthcare reform improving their own situation. The fifth myth is that Americans are deeply concerned about extending health insurance to those not covered. In fact a recent Kaiser Foundation poll found that 54% of Americans are not willing to pay more — either in higher health insurance premiums or higher taxes — to increase the number of Americans that have coverage. As a country we are concerned about the rise in healthcare expenditures and are heartbroken when we hear of people who have been denied medical treatment but we do not want to pick up the tab for them. The United States does have to confront the reality that some people in this country are crushed by medical costs and some receive inadequate treatment. But the debate over how to remedy these problems should be framed by facts not myths.

Baseball: Insurance run saves Salt Lake Bees’ win
Salt Lake Tribune
It was their one run in the ninth though that ultimately made the difference in Salt Lake’s 7-6 victory. Colorado Springs rallied with a combined four runs over the sixth and seventh innings and scored another in the bottom of the ninth off Salt Lake’s PCL All-Star closer Jeremy Hill. The Bees’ run in the top half of the ninth — with Bobby Wilson’s single to right bringing home Brandon Wood — therefore proved an invaluable insurance run. Howie Kendrick led the Salt Lake offense going 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Wood Wilson Reggie Willits and Ben Johnson each contributed two hits. Bobby Mosebach earned the win while Hill picked up his 17th save of the season — despite allowing a run on two hits and a walk in a shaky ninth-inning effort. Pioneer League Raptors 6 wlz 5 (11) » At gden the home rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth then prevailed in the 11th thanks to an RBI double by Jerry Sands.
